LinNeighborhood
LinNeighborhood
LinNeighborhood is free software under the terms of the GNU General Public License for browsing M$ machines and mounting SMB filesystems.

The latest version is 0.6.5

It's a GUI frontend running over Samba and Smbmount using the Gimp Toolkit. It requires the GTK+ libraries installed on your system. To use internationalization you need GNU gettext on your machine.

Further it's very important to configure Samba in a proper way, otherwise you will get browse problems. Take a look at the Samba package for more information.

If you're using kernel 2.2 (version 2.1.70 or higher), you must use the smbmount package included in Samba 2.0. For kernels 2.0 use the Smbfs package for mounting and unmounting.

For further information please take a look at the README included in the package. For any comments or suggestions for future versions (or bug reports), please contact us.
Richard Torkar has offered to provide rpm packages, thanks for his work. See more details in the download section.

File Managers:
If you have command syntaxes to start any other file managers not included in LinNeighborhood by default, send us the command syntax and we'll insert it in the next releases.

how to submit bugs
If you want to submit any bug, please notice the following:
  • In the case you have browse or mount problems, please don't only say something like 'I cannot browse, what should I do ?'. We cannot say much about the problem by such poor info. Please send us any log output instead, this may help us to figure out the problem.
  • If you have a problem like 'it works here but there it doesn't', send both the log to compare them.
  • If anything doesn't work from LinNeighborhood, does it work from command line ?
  • The versions of kernel, samba... can be important. Let us know.
  • Please send only to one of the authors, not to all.
Thanks
