The Day Emmanuel Died.
And he wasn't even informed...
Fri. Nov 10, 1995
The jokers on #hack pulled of a hoax convincing a good deal of the
haxoring community that Emmanuel had died. Fooled me for a while. Juliet
was the only one who wasn't too lazy to call the hospital. She ruined it
for everyone. Here's the centerpiece of the hoax.
AP -- New York
Computer advocate and self-described anarchist Eric Corley, aka 'Emmanuel
Goldstein', was killed this morning in a head on collision with a tractor
trailer. Corley, 35, published 2600 magazine, a 'hacker quarterly' that
regularly printed tips on computer hacking and getting free phone service.
An associate of Corley's, Mike Godwin, said "The computer underground has
lost a good friend today." A memorial service is planned and will be
announced later today.
