(please bear with me if it's not a word by word translation, I wanted to make it rhyme and it mirrors the meaning)

Hello Darkelf:

I spend a couple of years in Germany (Ansbach) shortly after I was born (wenn ich war sehr jung 1946-1948) and have always wanted to go back for a visit. My interest carried me to study European History, with an emphasis on Germany, when I was in College. Tried to get the Army to send me there when I was drafted, but they thought they couldn't win that Viet Nam War without me. I was forced to proved they couldn't win it even with me.

I also tried to get them to send me to German language school, which is really quite good, but, again, ended up in Vietnamese Language School instead. Although a large number of Vietnamese came to the U.S. after the war ended, I haven't had much call to use the language, except in the occasional restaurant.
