Would anyone be willing to burn me a copy of the free RCE Cd. I've tried to get hold of it but can't (email address for UK doesn't work) . I'd cover any costs involved.
Cheers,
Bill.

Hiya all.

First post on the new board, w0w Been way too busy IRL

Hiya Clandestiny. Does your reply means that you're now an active distributor in UK, and that I can send UK's request back to you, or did I continue to serve 'em as well ?

Anyway, just a thing I'd like to clear up, acting as one of the volunteer for the RCE CD (BTW, the list is still at w*w.idca.com/~thesandman/RCE/Requests.html ) : I had lately a lot of requests for the "Special Edition CD", so I'll say it here, once and for all : I've never heard about a special edition CD. I've sent 'round 150 CDs everywhere in the world in the last 6 months, and they were all the from the same ISO I received from one of the volunteer.

So, as far as I know, sorry boys : no "Special Edition CD".
But, Bengaly, if you truly have the "special edition", I'd be interested in a copy, or at least a ls -lR, to know the differences. Let me know.

regards,
Aleph

PS: sorry for my english, I'm not practicing a lot those times.

To EtErNaL_L0ser :

I emailed you yesterday... I take it you didn't get my message? Well, anyway I sent it again just now. If you don't recieve it this time, perhaps you can verify your email address with me...

To Aleph:

Good to see you're back . BTW, I'm not really an "official" distributor at all . I've sent out a few RCE cd's to a handful of individuals in the past who've expressed an interest, but I'm not on the list as an active distributor. I can, however, confirm for you the existance of the RCE Special Edition cd since its the version I've got myself. If you're interested, feel free to drop me an email.

As I mentioned previously, if someone can get me the 700 megs of space, I don't mind uploading the ISO somewhere.

Regards,
Clandestiny

Thanks to Clandestiny, I am in a position to make the cd available for a SHORT time on the web via FTP. The required arrangements will be made and I will let you know shortly.

In the past, it has been customary to pass the cd around via distributors and the likes. I think that in this new age of broadband internet, the iso can be downloaded in 8 hours or less. When the ISO is available, I and many others would proberbly like the assistance of being able to have other locations to obtain it. If you do download it and can host it, put it up and let us all know.

Right, the ISO can be downloaded at.......... Uhhh.... I need to keep some control so drop me an e-mail and I will hand you the info. Please also include your download bandwidth to try judge how long each person will take. Cable modem (512k) can take 6 - 8 hours. Dial up, :-) well, forever but I can work with you.

The D/L is divided into 15*30Mb files. I do not want anyone who starts to not finish so lets have order and the FTP will stay up. I will keep it up as long as possible.

Once again, if you can host the files somewhere, then do it.

Hello Hoof Arted!

Please send me the URL too.
I can provide 700 megs of space or even more if needed. If you allow me to download it from you I can put it on and will accept reqests for downloading too. I have a limit on outgoing data (4Gb/day and 8Gb/5 days I think - after it I'll be banned ) so I won't post the address here but I'll email it to anyone who asks for it if I have some bytes remaining for that day )
I would be happy if I could help others to take the cd too.

Thanks and waiting for your reply,

kp

As the original creator of the RCE cd, I know of no 'special Editions' of this cd, besides, the original CD was filled to the max, so any 'special Editions' of this would mean a loss of some of the old data from the original cd.

However, just before I created the master CD I added some extra files to the cd without properley checking them and it was here a couple of minor viruses sneeked in without me noticing. By the time this was spotted, several CD's had already been sent out. Subsequent releases of this cd were sent out cleaned of these two viruses. This might be where the confusion arises of the 'Special Edition' CD's. They are both identicle, but the latter is virus free.

My web page at idca.com has been frozen in time for well over a year now, I have no access to it what-so-ever, the isp hosting it is no longer active, they do however continue to host my page out of respect, to which I am eternally gratefull to them. This means I am unable to remove/alter/add those volunteers who have offered their services in distributing the RCE cd. If anyone still want's a copy of this cd then seek it here, in the forums rather than from my web page.

Regards & Respects to you all

+Sandman

P.S. I send my personal thanks to Woodmann & +Tsehp for keeping the true spirit of reversing alive within these forums. Now that is an achievement all on it's own.

Hiya,

I know there's some confusion regarding the special edition cd. The opening screen of my own RCE cd clearly states "Special Edition" though I have no idea weather the realease was intended as a special edition or not. For clarification purposes, I'm uploading a .jpg image of the opening screen as it is on my version of the RCE cd.

ok, Maybe the line in my last message was not clear enough. To avoid this becomming a bun fight and the total destruction of my bandwidth, I would like an e-mail from you if you want this ISO. Also let me know when bandwidth you have so that I can try plan for usage. I dont want to be a bitch about this but I need to keep control. If anyone who already has an account and the download path give this infomation out on this board or anywhere else, I will pull it. If you have an FTP server an can host it, I will upload it to your site.

Hi Everyone!

I succesfully downloaded the RCE ISO (thanks again Hoof ) and anyone who needs it can download it from me. So if you need it then please email me, and please let me know your bandwidth too. I will reply you as soon as you can download it and give you the details. (if I get many requests then maybe you'll have to wait a few days because of my outgoing data limitation)

Best regards,
kp

Ok, I have sent +-3.6 GB of data in the last 5 days and there is more to go. I just want to say to people that the ISO image that is available is VERY large. I would reccomend that people download the volumes and put it all back together on their own systems. You can save yourself about 160Mb worth of download this way. For Dial up users, dont even think about trying the ISO. You will never finish.

I do not want to ban the download of the ISO image itself but I have had some people download the volumes AND the ISO. If this is you and you already have the volumes, please stop. One or the other, it is the same thing, exactly the same size and hash. Give some others the chance to use up all my bandwidth

Also, send an e-mail to KP_ if I am not able to respond quickly enough. Hopefully all the people busy downloading at the moment will be able to finish this weekend and we can start a fresh batch of downloadees . And for those of you who do not know, the ISO needs to be burned back to cd or you must extract it to disk with something like Winimage.

Happy downloading.

hi guys. I just finished downloading the volumes and assmbled the ISO. However, problem is, when I try to burn the ISO onto disk, Nero gives me a few options, which leaves me kinda confused.

first off, what should i specify for "type of image"?? there's data mode 1, data mode 2, and HFS. And should i check the "raw data"? How about the settings like "block size", "scrambled", "swapped"?

sorry to ask this kind of thing, but I'm really new here to ISO burning. This is the first time i've actually downloaded an ISO.

Thank you all.

HIya Seeker,

What version of Nero are you using ??

I dont have all that options. I only have Data 1 and
Data 2 modes heheh
In any case, when I usually burn CDs that contain files
I use ISO 9660 (the default) and data mode 1, which
seems to work just fine.
I don't remember the differences between all the modes,
but since these are just files, data 1 will probably work
for you, and you can probably also leave the other checkboxes
alone

I d/l the volumes, how do I assemble the ISO??

I never had to do this before. By the way, what does ISO stand for?

Hoof Arted
November 15th, 2001, 03:28
To assemble the ISO from the volumes, download winrar and extract the *.rar file. It will then extract all the other volumes to form the one large ISO.

Hoof

UrgeOverKill
November 15th, 2001, 20:42
hmm, it seems that i can't unzip my rar file. My zip prog is giving me an error msg that it 'cannot write to the disk (disk full?)'

I have Zip Magic 4.0. and plenty of disk space. It does this on the disk and when I copied the disk to a temp file on my c drive, same, same.

anybody else have the same prob.?

Hoof Arted
November 16th, 2001, 03:58
Did all the MD5 hashes total up? Try getting winrar. SW version will work.
