I'm having a problem configuring softice, every time I add to the INIT="X;" line
(example) INIT=" Code ON; Faults Off; Lines 50; WD 20; WC 20; X;"
and then reboot SI pops up and I have to go in to safe mode and remove what I added in to that line. The same when I modify the winice.dat file by removing the ( ; ),

(example)Remove>; LOAD=c:\windows\system\user.exe

I get a Loading c:\windows\system\user.nms file not found. What am I doing worng I have read Some Tutorials but they are a bit out of date, these Tutorials deal with softice 3.0 & win 95. Im running win 98 & win XP on the same computer and using softice 4.2.5, and should I max out my RAM I have 448 MB/s so should I edit it to PHYSMB=448.

Hi

I'm not sure what your problem with winice.dat is, the syntax looks OK. What do mean SI pops up and then you have to remove what you modified? Where does it popup, i.e. in what code and what does the command window tell you if anything? You have faults off so I don't see that it should popup on a fault, and I don't see why it should popup at all. If you F5 Windows won't continue loading properly I assume. It must be this dual boot thing you've got going on. Does it happen if you only add 1 extra entry? The other option is to try the X; as the 1st entry, not the last. You can then process the rest of the parameters the 1st time you use Ctrl-D once Windows has loaded.

As for the error message on LOAD=c:\windows\system\user.exe, the simple answer is you can't do that. Unless, as winice.dat says, you have the sdk. You're not normally interested in these 16 bit files anyway, but you can uncomment any of the lines that begin with "EXP=".

As for specifying your true RAM size, sure why not? Probably not needed though, but I don't know that it does any harm.

Thats Very odd I edited the winice .dat file again with the same and tried it with the X at the end and in front.
INIT=" Code ON; Faults Off; Lines 50; WD 20; WC 20; X; " <then this one> INIT="X; Code ON; Faults Off; Lines 50; WD 20; WC 20; " and rebooted the computer softice poped up in boot up, and I got a.

Break due to page fault (0Eh). fault=0002
MSR LastExceptionFromIp=CADC314B
MSR LastExceptionToIp=CADC316B

I pressed 'C' to Continue and each time I got the same message except for CADC31** was different. then after I kept pressing 'C' I got the blue screen of death with the message A fatal Exeption 0E Has occurred at 002:C003E25 in VXD VMM (01) + 00002E25 pressed a key to continue. The computer rebooted in safe mode, I did not edit the winice.dat file this time and rebooted the computer again. It boot into windows o.k. and softice seems to work now, I tried rebooting it a few more time and it seem fine now odd.
