Hi guys,

Any chance we could change the timeout/expiry on the forum cookies? Reason being, I took my time posting a reply, walked away for a few mins, came back and found the threads I've read/not read had been wiped (ie: like I've left the board and the "last visited" time has been updated). So a bunch of threads I hadn't read got marked as read because of the timeout.

Bah, I can't explain it properly. Anyway, happens to me quite often when I get distracted. To reproduce, wait till someone posts a new thread, visit forum, don't view anything, leave browser open for a bit then refresh main forum page - all the unread post icons are now read post icons.

Are you suggesting we need to change something because you get easily distracted and wander away from your computer for sufficient time for the cookies to time out? Shouldn't you just adjust your behavior, rather than change ours?

seriously though, silver, it may be a fun exercise for you to do some reversing to make sure your cookie doesn't time-out (and of course post your findings here )

Silver, here's the procedure I normally use to get around this problem:

1.
Arrive at the RCE board index.

2.
Select the "New Posts" option (in the "Quick Links" drop-down).

3.
You now have a list of all your unread posts in all forums, and you can leave this window open until you have read them all, even if you go for lunch inbetween or whatever.

4.
Just remember, as soon as you have loaded any of these new posts, update the new posts list again (not by pressing reload, but by accessing the same link from the same dropdown again, because of the fucked up way that vBulletin cashes search results), or you may lose any new posts being made between the listing was done and the last thread was loaded by you (since the timestamp is updated on every server hit). I normally load all the threads in new windows, and then reload the index once to see if there were any new posts made during these few seconds. This way, not a single post can slip by me.

Wow. It's really just much easier just not to visit the Forum until you are actually ready to spend some time reviewing the posts. Although I often have to attempt to multitask which reading the posts, I have not run into any problems. Of course, unlike some of our younger readers, I'm not so easily distracted by the rest of the world, having already seen a whole lot of it before. I have it from reliable sources that dELTA falls out his window and gives chase every time a polar bear wanders by, even though he's "been there, done that" many times already.

Hey... women aren't afraid to come near me. I bathe at least once a year, whether I need it or not. And bilbo, women with big hairy feet seem to be particularily attracted to me.

And for your information, I have both a spouse and a girlfriend. Age does have it's privileges, although both are probably only interested in what little money I have left. And I have the advantage that nearly "every" female is a "younger woman".

So what does it mean that my post count now, once again, ends in "69." I seem to recall that also had some interesting connotations, but, because of my advanced age, I'm not sure I recall correctly.
