VibroMet™ Multi Beam Laser Doppler Vibrometer
Applications

The MB-LDV is measuring an aircraft stabilizer wing

Automotive Vibrations

The multiple beams of the MB-LDV illuminate the vicinity of a landmine

The VibroMet MB-LDV measures the velocity profile of a target surface at multiple locations simultaneously. This information may be used to nondestructively test target properties underneath the surface. For example, a target may be excited acoustically or with a shaker and the surface velocity would be indicative of bulk changes in stiffness. This is similar to finding studs behind a drywall by tapping on the surface and listening to the tap. A change in stiffness in the bulk of the material is manifested by a change in the surface velocity, which can be accurately measured with the laser vibrometer.

MetroLaser has applied this technology to finding flaws under the surface of numerous structures and materials and for finding buried landmines, since the landmine acts as a drum that changes the stiffness of the ground. MetroLaser's instruments are tested in non-exploding landmines.
