- The photos were almost certainly altered after 1961, as the lines around cremation buildings on the the May 25 photos were drawn to coincide with ground photos of Birkenau, first publicized in the 1961 Adolf Eichmann trial. (See May 25 map and photo) .
- The photos were taken from U.S. government storage, altered, and refiled, so they could be publicized, not kept in storage. They were almost certainly altered just before April, 1978, when they were given to C.I.A. air photo interpreters, who prepared a report for publication.
'Photographic evidence' of mass murder alleged in 'The Holocaust Revisited'
Two C.I.A. air photo experts used high quality magnifying and stereo viewing equipment to study 1944 photos and negatives of the Auschwitz camps. Photos were labelled which they interpreted as:
- prisoners standing formation,
- newly arrived prisoners being marched to the gas chamber-crematorium compound,
- special security arrangements around the cremation buildings,
- vents used to insert Zyklon B crystals into subsurface homicidal gas chambers, and
- cremation pits
- It could be demonstrated that every mark on the August 25th photos which CIA photo experts used to conclude that 'homicidal gas chambers' were in operation, had been drawn on the photos. However, in the six month study the two experts saw no evidence that marks had been drawn on the photo negatives.
- In February 1979, the 20 page 'The Holocaust Revisited' was published, and received wide publicity as 'photographic evidence of the Holocaust'.
- In late 1979 the photos were given to the National Archives for public access.
Why were photos retouched, and who was responsible?
- If the people responsible for the air photo retouching believed the mass murder claims, they would not have altered the photos, for they would have presumed the unaltered photos would support the allegations. Did those responsible alter the photos because they realized there were contradictions between the mass murder stories and the images on the air photos, and changed the photos in an attempt to have them validate the stories?
- The conclusion is that in 1978 a group conspired to alter official government documents to defraud governments, and manipulate public opinion, to accept only one interpretation of World War II detention camp history.
Are other documents authentic?
- German mass murder allegations were thought to be based on interpretation of unaltered evidence, but it has now been demonstrated that the pivotal Auschwitz mass murder claims have been supported by altered government documents.
