WaveMANAGER/CLIENT is a diagnostic utility that provides a Microsoft
Windows 95 and Windows NT oriented user-interface to monitor wireless performance
of WaveLAN wireless networks.
System Requirements
|
To run the WaveMANAGER/CLIENT you will
need:
- A computer running the Microsoft Windows 95, or Windows NT operating
system
- A WaveLAN/PCMCIA or WaveLAN/ISA
network adapter card
- Upgrade to / Install the latest WaveLAN Miniport Driver version 1.17
Note: This driver is not yet available from the WaveLAN software diskettes!

|
|
|
Please Note: |
Miniport Drivers have been designed to
run under the Microsoft Windows 95 and Windows NT Operating Systems.
As Windows, and Windows for Workgroups (v.3.x) run on the MS-DOS operating
system, you can not use WaveMANAGER/CLIENT (refer to the MS-DOS based utilities
Point-to-Point Diagnostics and WaveMONITOR
instead). |

DONE BY A SKILLED LAN ADMINISTRATOR OR SUPPORT ENGINEER THAT HAS A WORKING
KNOWLEDGE OF THE MICROSOFT WINDOWS 95 AND WINDOWS NT OPERATING SYTEM.
PLEASE READ CAREFULLY THE FOLLOWING INSTRUCTIONS PRIOR
TO MODIFYING THE NETWORK ADAPTER SETUP, OR STARTING THE UPGRADE PROCEDURE.
|
|
|
Why replace the old driver?
|
Windows Plug & Play for PCMCIA cards
enhances ease of installation when it comes to installing new hardware
for the very first time. The Windows operating system will associate a
specific driver with specific hardware.
The drawback of this Plug and Play mechanism is that it complicates
upgrading existing drivers because:
- When you remove a driver from the Network (Neighborhood) Control Panel,
it will not be deleted from your harddisk.
- When trying to upgrade a driver, Windows will recognize the hardware
as a piece of hardware that had been installed before and will attempt
to re-install the old driver.
Therefore, when trying to upgrade from an older version you are advised
to overwrite the previously installed
WaveLAN Network Adapter Drivers on your harddisk drive.
|
|
|
Overwrite previously installed Drivers
|
- Open the Windows Explorer (File Manager).
- In the Explorer Menu, point to View and select Options
- From the View tab, select 'Show all files' and clear the check-box
'Hide MS-DOS file extensions'.
- Click the Apply button to return to the Explorer (File Manager)
window.
- Back in the Windows Explorer (File Manager) open the folder where you
saved the downloaded file (C:\Program Files\WaveLAN\)
- Open the folder C:\Program Files\WaveLAN\Drivers
- Copy the following system files to the directories as indicated below:
For Windows 95 Operating Systems
- Copy the file wvlan22.inf to the Windows directory C:\Windows\inf
When asked to 'Replace the existing file? Click Yes.
- Copy the files wvlan22.sys and wv2uif.vxd to the Windows
System directory C:\Windows\System\
When asked to 'Replace the existing file? Click Yes.
For Windows NT Operating Systems:
- Copy the files wvlan22.dll and wvlan22.hlp to
the Windows NT System directory C:\Winnt\system32
When asked to 'Replace the existing file? Click Yes.
- Copy the file wvlan22.sys to the Windows NT System directory
C:\Winnt\system32\drivers
When asked to 'Replace the existing file? Click Yes.
- When finished, close the Windows Explorer.
- Restart the Computer to ensure Windows loads the new WaveLAN Miniport
Driver system files.
This will finish your upgrade to the latest version of the WaveLAN Miniport
Driver. You can now run the WaveMANAGER/CLIENT Diagnostics program.

6 Install WaveLAN Miniport
Driver v.1.17
|
If you did not have any WaveLAN Driver
installed, proceed as described below.
The installation process of drivers for WaveLAN/ISA Cards, differs slightly
form the installation of WaveLAN/PCMCIA:
- Insert the WaveLAN/PCMCIA Card
Windows will detect the 'new' hardware and will try to install the appropriate
drivers.
- Click the Start button, point to Settings and then click Control
Panel
- Double-click the 'Add New Hardware button'.
- Select 'Yes' to find the new hardware.
When Windows has identified the new hardware, it will ask you to provide
a disk from the 'hardware manufacturer'.
- Move to the WaveLAN directory which you created under step '1
Create a directory', open the folder 'Drivers' (e.g. C:\Program Files\WaveLAN\Drivers)
and select the file oemsetup.inf.
A computer with WaveLAN/PCMCIA will continue automatically, a computer
equipped with WaveLAN/ISA may ask you to select a driver from the list
displayed.
Note: When prompted to select a driver, select
the driver that corresponds with the actual card inserted into the computer.
For example:
When using an AT&T WaveLAN adapter, select the AT&T Miniport
driver. Otherwise Windows 95 may not recognize the hardware a next time
when the station is rebooted. In such cases Windows 95 will report 'New
hardware found' and attempt to install a new driver.
- Fill-out the WaveLAN properties that apply to your network environment
(Domain ID, NWID etc.).
You do not need to enter the Station Address
- Windows will now rebuild the driver database, and may ask you for the
Windows 95/NT CD-ROM:
If you had a WaveLAN Miniport Driver installed before, most files that
the Windows Operating System is trying to copy, will still be available
on the computer itsself. In that case you can try to replace the path to
the CD-ROM drive by c:\windows\system or c:\windows
(for Windows 95), or c:\winnt\system32 (Windows NT), i.e.
the location where the system files were located before. Optionally you
can try to use the Find File option to determine the path required on your
computer.
- When finished restart your computer to activate the new driver software.
