A Professional Hit

Thompson and his wife are surprised in their driveway. The assassins force them both to their knees, Thompson pleads for his wife's life, but the assassins make Thompson watch as his wife is shot, 'execution style', in the head. Next, they shot him.

"Once they were in a position where Mickey Thompson could clearly watch, the second gunman put a gun to her head and pulled the trigger," a neighbor testifies.

Shot Ten Times

Sheriff's investigators went to the scene and immediately knew that the murders were a professional "hit." Trudy Thompson had been wearing $70,000 worth of jewelry, none of which was taken. Witnesses said they saw two hooded men with guns flee; they were never caught. Thompson, 51, was shot seven times, and the 41-year-old Trudy, three.

Michael 'Mickie' Goodwin

Mickie Goodwin is a Jewish concert and sports promoter, who merged his motocross racing business with Thompson's after losing stadium rights to Thompson. Goodwin sold Thompson on his entertainment expertise, and Thompson took him on.  From the beginning Goodwin saw Thompson as an easy Goy mark. Three hours after the agreement was signed, Goldwin told an associate, Stewart Linkletter, "'We're going to screw Thompson out of everything.'"

Goodwin was caught with his hands in the till, Thompson sued, and won $793,000. Two weeks after Goodwin lost his case, Thompson was slain. Police speculate that Goodwin's Las Vegas, and Las Angeles contacts, put him in touch with the Mickie Cohen gang.

Flees To The Caribbean

Within six weeks, Goodwin had purchased a $400,000 yacht, bought $350,000 worth of gold coins and transferred $150,000 to an offshore bank account in the Caribbean. Goodwin fled to the Caribbean for three years, when he returned he, and his wife Rachel Sidel, spent 30 months in prison for a financial embezzlement. Goodwin was arrested in 2001, and has remained in jail since, his case was delayed numerous times by legal wrangling, and 70 court appearances.

He is charged with murder, conspiracy to commit murder, and 3 special circumstances.

The Trial

The trial began on 11/6/2006 and Goodwin is portrayed as a scheming vengeful hustler, who planned to screw Thompson from the very beginning. Witnesses are divulging to numerous death threats Goodwin made if they testified.

Goodwin is described as the ultimate schemer by various witnesses. Jewish groups have pulled out all stops to free Goodwin. It is hoped that Judge Teri Schwartz will favor Goodwin's rulings in the trial.

Nineteen Years Without A Trial

Even the police were stunned how vicious this crime was. To give specific orders that the killers make Thompson watch his wife get shot in the head, is raw vengeance. Prosecutors wouldn't grant him bail because rumors floated he had a sizeable bank account in Tel Aviv, and planned to flee.
